Operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) raided a gay bar in Sta. Cruz, Manila, before dawn Friday and arrested more than 20 persons, including 14 male strippers, for allegedly presenting lewd shows to its patrons and for working without permit.
Police Chief Inspector Marcelo Reyes, head of the MPD General Assignment Section, said operatives arrested at least 14 male strippers, five comedy impersonators and performers, a cashier, two waiters, and a caretaker of the Men's Court Club.
Reyes also identified the caretaker as Blake Mijares, 47, a resident of Pugoso Street corner Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Police said they caught one of the dancers dancing nude in front of club customers.
The raid at the bar located on 700 Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila was prompted by information relayed to police by an investigative television show and was made at around 2:30 a.m. of Friday.
Reyes said the television show provided police secretly recorded videos of several male dancers slowly stripping and baring their private parts to patrons of the club.
The videos likewise allegedly showed some dancers performing male to male sexual acts on stage, the police officer added.
Authorities quickly devised a plan after seeing the video before executing the raid in the bar.
During the raid, all of the club employees allegedly failed to present working permits to the arresting police officers as well as the business permit and operation license of the bar.
Sought for his comment, Mijares claimed he was not aware of illicit activities inside the club since he was only the caretaker of the establishment.
"Tuwing umaga kasi ako tumatao sa club dahil bukas naman yun 24 oras kaya hindi ko alam na may ganyan na palang nangyayari sa loob," he told the Manila Bulletin in an interview inside the MPD-GAS office.
Mijares, when asked who was the owner of the said gay bar, said that a certain "Jaycee" was the only person who allegedly knows all of the operations of the gay bar.
"Isang beses ko lang siya nakita dahil hindi naman siya nag-iistay sa bar," he said.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District is set to file charges in violation of Revised Penal Code Article 201 (Lewd Show), Revised Ordinance (RO) Section 601-B (Working without Permit), RO Sec 595 (Engaging business without Mayor's permit), and RO Sec 572 (Engaging business without license).
