Hey guys,
Just wanted to share this...

My family found out I was gay 8 years ago, and I lost them because of it. My little sister started communicating with me recently, which is absolutely brilliant. Since then, any time I’m with her, I feel guilty, even uncomfortable at times with my sexuality. Now I’m wondering if I’ve been too selfish in allowing my loved ones to find out who I truly am.

How much can one sacrifice to be who they really are?
Have any of you had similar experiences, in regards to family and sexuality?

Hi young for all it is worth you let your sexuality out because you where strong enough at the time to do so,you were driven by your inner self something that defines us all.
Why are some people able to do certain things and others not ,why do some people give their lives for a belief and other do not.
Some of us are destined to push the boundaries of society and those of our own setting.
Even if you kept quiet for another 2 years you were destined to be open about you and your sexuality, you would have only endured 2 years of internal discomfort until it became something that you would need to let out.

People like you are the process of change that is happening because it has to ,needs to and will do.
There are sacrifices and you are enduring it right now with the loss of your family but you have also gained your inner strength to cross certain boundaries set by society and yourself.
You are in a great space with the knowledge that you can over come your own fears and those pushed onto you by cultural norms.
What has happened has and we could all look back with regret but that will change zero.
If your future is about you and where you are going you are in a` great place because you are running the show now .You have made the decision to answer to yourself to a large extent ,and with that comes a lot of responsibility you have to take for running the show.

Have fun and enjoy the ride it only happens once for now .

The map is not the territory\\\\\\" is also cited as an underlying principle used in neuro-linguistic programming, where it is used to signify that individual people in fact do not in general have access to absolute knowledge of reality, but in fact only have access to a set of beliefs they have built up

Firehorse40,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your splendid honesty. You have certainly shed light on truthful reality. You’re right, I shouldn't have too much regrets about the life that I was destined to live, nonetheless it’s a whole new ball game where loved ones, who find homosexuality to be harmful are concerned. All I really desire is to be accepted by my family and to be one of them without any prejudice, but I realise that’s not on the cards any time soon. As for being part of the change that’s happening, I don’t think I’m very strong since I’m having some heartfelt regrets about my relations finding out about my sexuality. All I can now do is try and be somebody to myself and be hopeful of the future. We all have to take responsibility for ourselves and make something of ourselves, regardless of the rejections we might face from our fellow human beings who I believe behave the way they do because of their fears of the unknown.
Once again I would like to express my thanks for your kind words.
Young x

Nina,
As to how they found out, well, I didn’t tell them out of choice and it’s something that I’d like to not dwell upon. Perhaps it will be easier to talk about in the future.
Young x

it's hard for parents to digest such news, coz first of all they wont believe it. I know some1 who is lesbian and no one knows even her friends or family. You are very strong if you have stayed that long without communicating with ur family. There are choices we make in life for us but sometimes it cuts off any relation we've got either with family or some friends. Hope they come around be patient, u never know .
