Whatever happened to all the good Somali singers??? I went online to see if there are any new Sm music,,only to find It's full of sh***t. Is it me or are we running out of decent musicians??

Surely It's not in our blood to produce such a bad singer/song writers,,I mean I remember Magool and she was an absolute brilliant talent.

What do you guys think???

Well babe all the good Somali singers have gone old now and the younger singers are either singing in English or recycling the classic songs.

If that’s the case,,its overwhelming sad because end of the day everyone needs their culture to survive, musically and or otherwise. What does the future hold for the younger Somali folks, I wonder???
I personally blame the warlords, who have nothing better than to destroying our country. They’re ruining it for everyone, shame on them. We had history and respected culture before all the madness in 1990 and look where we are now. No decent music, no stable homeland. Somalia’s scattered all over the world.
I think we should do Xfactor,,Somali _style_ and recreate the classics (lol) What do you think?)

As you have hinted definetly the war is playing part of the reason why we are not producing the next best Magool. Also since the intelectual property of the artist are not valued and procted in our country and culture few will pursue singing as a career.
However, the future does not all look too bleak, recently someone brought to my attention that they had 'heesaha hirgalay' competition which the X-factor kind of version in Hargaysa were youngesters were competing against each other.
I hope future goverments of Somalia and the general public will understand the importance of preserving our culture especially since the world is becoming a global city where hyprid cultures are forming fast and replacing the old.

Just discovered this website- where you will find old and new Somali artist-- enjoy

Hi young I don’t think we lost the singers and good voices there just too many bad ones (everyone can sing now ) what were lacking the most are lyrics WE NEED SOMALI SONG Writers badly they don’t make them like they used too, it seem to be about the beat and not the lyrical content of the song which is a shame, but I’m hopeful for the future special when I hear a voice like farxiya and lyrics

Well Muraad you have just restored my faith to somewhat. It’s wonderful to know people haven’t lost their passion for music in Somalia. I’m going to be optimistic for another Magool somewhere waiting to be established. I was a wee bit scared but by the sound of things, there is still hope for us. I believe that identity is a key aspect for human beings and music is definitely something one can identify with.
Thanks for the _link_, gonna check it out!

Hey Zebra hows it going,
Not like they used to, I mean I remember when I was young listening to people like Samatar/magool and sometimes my sisters would take me to concerts. To be honesty I haven’t heard anyone as good as the old singers. I’m keeping open mind though as I said above.lol

I agree with you Young, Because i'm getting sick and tired of seeing these talentless bunch of wannabes! Seems like the newbies specially the females inspire to sound like habashis. What an embarrassment and disheartening thing to see, specially in this day and age! I seriously can't think of a more insulting thing to our beautiful language than seeing a somali singer impersonating a habashi sound whilst singing in somali.

Magool was and still is the queen and the legend of all somali singers. No somali singer from the old nor the new generation could ever compare to her. she always had the ability to do everything effortlessly and with each and everytime she kept on excelling it was obvious that no one could do it like she did. she outshined them all so much so that with every success she kept on setting the standards higher and higher till everyone else was left behind. There never was a doubt where Magool or anyone else for that matter was concerned that she would claim the number spot. She was the only singer in my opinion that had it all, whether it came down to her vocal abilities, song writing or her sense of fashion, she always managed to master it like no other. She's simply the best and will always be my all time favourite somali singer.

Anyhow, these are my favourite old songs from the queen and the king of somali singers

Magool and Xasan Adan Samatar

This is also one of my favourite song from Saado Ali and Beerdilaacshe
I 'm loving sidey isku luxeyso, kacabsan ku iri.

I am glad you like it too. I am fun of good old classics so enjoy it bro. It was actually another member who brought this website to my attention and I guess we should thank him too.

Thanks Dhaashane

Yeah, Sugar we need to revive the Somali music and culture so that it does not get lost!!!
Hopefully when piece returns, I think the sky is the limit, in terms what we can achieve as individuals and as a nation.
