Americans more supportive of 'gay men and lesbians' than 'homosexuals'

A survey has found that the wording used when asking the public about their views on gay rights makes a substantial difference to the answers. A recent CBS News/New York Times poll asked 1,084 American adults their view on gays serving openly in the military. It found that respondents were far more supportive when they were asked about "gay men and lesbians", instead of "homosexuals".

France de-lists transgenderism as a mental illness

France has become the first country in the world to declassify transgenderism as a mental illness. Health minister Roselyne Bachelot announced in May last year, before International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO), that the country would move to de-list the condition as a mental illness.

Gay Oklahoma student sues agency over denied tag request

A college student wants IM GAY on his Oklahoma car tag, and he is suing to force state tax officials to approve his request. "I want to tell people who I am and what I am. I’m proud of it. I’m openly gay. I’m not hiding,” said Keith Kimmel, 28, of Norman. "What better way to tell everybody than to put it on the back of a car?”

Kenyan police raid 'gay wedding' and arrest five men

Police in Mtwapa, just north of the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa, say they have arrested five men whom they accuse of being homosexuals. District officer George Matandura said two of the men had been found with wedding rings, attempting to get married, in Kikambala beach resort.
