Following the recent unlawful arrest and assault of a transgender woman in the country, Audrey Mbugua voices the subordination of those who do not comply with the restrictive gender-based identities adopted by society at large. Mbugua unlaces these societal constructs that tie their subjects to an existence of marginalisation and abuse. Mbugua suggests ignorance and bureaucratised discrimination amongst Kenyan society is to blame.

Peru has announced it will debate a gay unions bill after Argentina became the first country in the region to legalize gay marriage. Congressman Jose A. Vargas has told the Peru press that he will introduce a bill that recognizes gay and lesbian couples with civil partnerships.

British man wins French civil partnership tax victory

A French court has ordered that a British man should be returned more than £30,000 he paid to tax authorities after inheriting a home from his civil partner. Jerry Lea shared the holiday home in Loir-et-Cher with partner Geoff Page, who owned the property.

A trans woman is one of the models in an advert for designer label Givenchy. Lea T is a former male model and previously worked as the assistant of Givenchy's creative director Riccardo Tisci. She can be seen in an autumn/winter 2010 group image for the brand, with her arm draped seductively around a male model.

US gay man wins $600,000 after being denied access to dying partner

An elderly gay man from California has won a $600,000 (£388,144) settlement after claiming he was barred from seeing his dying partner in hospital. Clay Greene, 78, of Guerneville, claimed that Sonoma County’s Public Guardian programme discriminated against him because he is gay.
