Ugandan tabloid prints list of 'tycoons who bankroll homos'

The Red Pepper, a Ugandan tabloid, has published a full-page article with the personal details of people who, it claims, 'bankroll Ugandan homos'. The paper, which has previously incited action against supporters of homosexual rights, printed the names, addresses, offices and makes of car belonging to the people it suspects are financing rights movements in the country.

Hong Kong strengthens same-sex domestic violence laws

Hong Kong will implement an amendment to its Domestic Violence Ordinance this week designed to protect same-sex couples against violence. The Ordinance (DVO) was first introduced in 1986 to enable spouses or people in heterosexual, cohabiting relationships to seek injunctions against violent partners.

Mexico City mayor refuses to veto gay marriage legislation

The mayor of Mexico City has refused to veto the bill introducing gay marriage, the Informador reported. The law, which was approved on 21 December, has suffered consistent criticism, with opponents urging Mayor Marcelo Ebrard of the progressive Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) to exercise his mayoral right to veto.

Married Malawian gay couple face test to prove they had sexual relations

The first gay couple to marry in Malawi face a humiliating medical examination aimed at proving they have had sexual relations, it emerged today. Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza could be sentenced to 14 years in prison if found guilty of "unnatural practices between males".

The Ugandan minister for ethics and integrity has suggested that the country will ditch its plans to execute gays in favour of life imprisonment. James Nsaba Buturo said this would allow authorities to rehabilitate gays.

Pakistan's Supreme Court ordered authorities on Wednesday to allow transvestites and eunuchs to identify themselves as a distinct gender as part of a move to ensure their rights, a lawyer said. Known by the term "hijra" in conservative Muslim Pakistan, transvestites, eunuchs and hermaphrodites are generally shunned by society.

US: Senate confirms in Minn. 1st openly gay US marshal

Minneapolis assistant police Chief Sharon Lubinski has become the first openly gay U.S. marshal. The U.S. Senate last week confirmed the Green Bay, Wis. native to be the U.S. marshal for the Minnesota district. The decision also makes her the first female marshal in the state.

Father accused of forcing 'gay' son to have sex with a prostitute

A father is standing trial in Queensland, Australia, for allegedly forcing his 14-year-old son to sleep with a prostitute because he thought the boy was gay. According to the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin, the alleged incident happened in 2007 at a family barbecue.
