Philippa Stroud, the Director of the Centre for Social Justice think-tank who is standing in Sutton and Cheam, helped set up the King’s Arms Project in Bedford in 1989.
A woman told a Sunday newspaper that when she was a teenager, her evangelical Christian parents made her attend the centre because of her “transexual issues” and that Mrs Stroud told her that she was “demonically possessed”.
Change and repent, bishop tells gaysThe woman, only identified as Abi, said: “The session ended with her and others praying over me, calling out the demons. She really believed things like homosexuality, transsexualism and addiction could be fixed just by prayer, all in the name of Jesus."
In a statement, Mrs Stroud said: ""I make no apology for being a committed Christian. However it is catagorically untrue that I believe homosexuality to be an illness and I am deeply offended that the Observer has suggested otherwise.
"I have spent more than 20 years working with disturbed people who society have turned their back on and who are often not. The idea that I am prejudiced against gay people is both false and insulting."sd
