The Sound Underneath the Beat Print E-mail

Let me a tell you a story of the days,
The old mothers use to have their says,
You can be anything you want to be,
My dear child aim for the sky,
And don’t let it hit you when you fly.

Let us forever fight for the freedom,
Telling us we never needed it,
Keep on feeding us the same treatment,
Never knowing when we’re going to heed it
The warnings none before us ever needed.

They keep going on,
Never letting on,
How it is to be strong,
Forever fighting on,
The battle continues its song.

Over the horizons where the sun never set,
Having to be conquered or playing dead,
Having a blind man being led,
On a string of dead man’s quartet.

If the words that come out of the mouth don’t make sense,
Listen to the song underneath my breath,
Every line works wonders to those that hear,
Not rhyming any more, but still underneath
Listening to forever beating beat,
Of the drums that our ancestors use to beat,
Till they’re black and blue from the heat,
Shining down on them for beneath,
The red rising sun frying their feet,
But they still never stop the beat,

Like the rhythm of the heart, going dum dum dum
Never stopping until, you’re gone gone gone
The poets words, never end end end
When all the words are gone, he’s dead dead dead

So put up your fists in the air,
Leave no room for despair,
Keep on holding on,
My brothers we’re going strong,
And we’ll keep going on,
Marching the world round,
To the old drum’s beating sound.
