Police trained in gay rights Print E-mail

Bogotá police have given 650 officers workshops on the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals and others in an effort to reduce sexual discrimination in the Colombian capital.
The program, run by gay rights group LGBT, covers correct procedure in police stations and the courts, recommending measures like having women officers register gay males and male officers register lesbians in certain cases, reports Canal Caracol.

At least 67 members of the gay community have been killed in Colombia in 2006 and 2007, according to gay rights group Diverse Colombia.
